The Venue
In the last century Robert Churchill was very innovative, a great shot and an ambassador for British shooting all round the world and we like to feel that he would have been thrilled and honoured that we are now associated with the CPSA / NSCA World Championships here at the UK’s leading shooting ground that bears his name. E.J. Churchill was founded in 1891 and taken over by Sir Edward Dashwood (the current Chairman) in the 1990’s. He first built the shooting ground on his family property, The West Wycombe Estate some 10 years earlier. Benjamin Franklin was a very close friend of Sir Edward’s ancestor and stayed at West Wycombe often. He described it as a paradise! Sir Edward has been a passionate shot from a young age and is regularly listed one of the UK’s top game shots. The shooting ground has gradually expanded and extended its facilities over the years and is now recognised as one of the finest in the world and has won many awards. West Wycombe Estate is a stunning 2,500 hectare property set in the Chiltern Hills just west of London in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Not only does it provide fantastic access for competitors, but the topography, mature woodland and nature of the terrain all lend it to be a really perfect setting for this prestigious championships.
E.J. Churchill has run many competitions over the years and being chosen to host the world sporting championships is a testament to the passion and professionalism of its management team. Rob Fenwick Managing Director says, “we are thrilled with the opportunity and will do all we can to make this one of the most memorable events ever for shooters. We will be drawing on our experience from previous competitions to put on some really exciting stands and challenging targets. We plan to surround the event with social activities and other shooting competitions, to make sure that visitors from all over the world can enjoy every minute. This will include being able to dine in Sir Edwards magnificent 18th century stately home which, along with its art collection, is widely regarded as one of Britain’s most beautiful”.
